I keep psyching myself up for this blog every night. If I don't, I'll probably chicken out and not do it.
That being said, my almost complete post got deleted two minutes ago by dumb butt me clicking the wrong X at the top of the browser. Go me!
I think the part of this schedule that scares me the most is this character bio day. These characters have more of me in them than I care to admit in broad daylight. Most of them, I just inject a bit of my own insecurities in and watch them deal with it in ways I can't help but envy. Other, oh others, they exemplify what I wish I could do without fears and doubts tossing gigantic hunks of "Who do you think you are, trying to be cute?" between my feet.
Now that I put just another of my dragon's hoard of issues out into the open, lets get onto (marginally) more interesting topics.
Originally, Sunday was supposed to be character bio day. I may or may not plan to expand on that a little bit and write a paragraph in the character's voice, so you can get a feel for how I hear them in my head. Because we all know crazy just got to be shared. That'll be decided later.
Ninnette Howards
Age: 12
Nationality: African American
Hair: black, worn in shoulder length dreadlocks
Eyes: brown
height: 4'11"
Ninnette was born and grew up in a city in Maine in the mid 70s. She was the older of two children raised by her mother. Her father was stationed over seas in Germany with the Army. She helped her mother raise her younger brother. Aside from her family, her greatest passions were painting and drawing. She was highly involved with the art program at her school and had her pieces entered into art contests all over the New England region. Just after the new year, Ninnette came down with bronchitis that worsened into double pneumonia. She was admitted to the children's ward of her local hospital where she continued to get worse. Ninnette died in the hospital at 12 years old.
Ninnette's mother had been a religious woman who taught her daughter about heaven and the afterlife, so when Ninnette found herself still in the hospital in a ghostly state, she was confused. After trying the normal ways of trying to communicate with people, she fell back into watching what was going on around her. She began to notice that some people had colors around them like a haze. These auras were of brilliant and varying colors, crossing the entire spectrum. As she spent most of her time around the children's ward, she saw colors that shift and didn't stay stable but instead changed from moment to moment.
Every so often, someone would even be able to see her and hear her. From these sensatives, she was able to learn about those auras and what they meant. Ninnette learned to read the auras and that she could even take tiny portions of them to paint with. Normal people couldn't see the paintings she did but the more she painted and decorated the walls of the children's ward, the children kept better spirits. Ninnette also learned that she could only take so much from a person's aura without hurting their spirit in some way.
She passes the years in this manner, talking to those who can hear her, comforting the troubled children in their sleep, and painting the walls with bright flowers and scenes children playing.
On another note, Ghost Hunters scare her. While some of the staff knows there is a ghost or two in the hospital, they tend to keep it discretely to themselves. At one point, a crew with cameras came to investigate supposed sighting of a young girl in a pair of faded coveralls and dreadlocks in the children's ward. She hid from them the entire time and only came out when all the cameras and recording equipment were gone.
She doesn't speak much to the other ghost on the grounds. He is an older man who used to a medical examiner who worked out of the hospital.

So yeah. Hope that didn't come off too disjointed or freaky. Give me a shout if you'd like to see any of these guys in a short story or flash fiction!
Go ahead. Comment. It'd do me good!
